ABOUT ALEC

It started for Alec like every one else, preschool and then kindergarten. As a parent, you look forward to what your child will achieve. You overthink, over focus, you can’t help it.

In grade school, it seemed like Alec worked harder than the other kids and yet his grades were mediocre. His second grade teacher gave great advice, “Guide him, don’t make him. Let him find his way! That’s how to see and find his strengths and weakness.”

When Alec was getting ready for high school it became apparent he might have a learning disability. He was tested and it was confirmed that he did, like so many others. He continued to work hard to maintain a good GPA, and took advantage of the different resources available at school. In his junior year, a former NFL quarterback came to his high school and spoke. He talked about how he got his accounting degree, got his CPA and later became an auditor. Alec realized that he wanted to follow that path.

Alec lived that dream, he was accepted to the UofA, completed his undergrad and masters in Accounting. I remember Alec telling me, “Dad, I have to read everything three times.” He had learned how to cope with his learning disability, and to be successful in achieving his goals. At his graduation, his professors sought me out. They told me, “You should be proud of him, an amazing young man. He worked so hard.” Immediately after graduating, he got his auditing job. While working full-time, he studied for his CPA and completed it within eight months. He studied every night for hours, just focused on his goal.

I knew that Alec helped others but I never knew the extent of it until after he passed away. I learned about his volunteerism, how he cared for others that were in pain or suffered loss, how he helped his friends through difficult times. He did these things in private, like how he lived his life. Quietly and with little fanfare.

Matthew 6:1-14. “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”

This Foundation was formed to continue his life’s mission of helping others, lifting those in need, and giving others an opportunity to reach their goals.
